KAHORU KOHIRUIMAKI - TIME THE MOTION (CD) 29K2-1002

So the whole point of this blog is to showcase US Paisley Park releases and help collectors find things they're looking for.  Why then, (you ask yourself), is the first entry about a CD that was never actually released in the US?

The answer is simply this...  I include certain international releases as part of my collection when they were never made commercially available for sale as a US release.

My understanding of the album is essentially that Prince or representatives of Paisley Park didn't actively pursue or attempt to sign Kahoru to the label.  Prince was approached by his Japanese tour promoter to contribute songs for her next album.  In collaboration with Levi Seacer, Jr., Prince laid down two tracks, 'Mind Bells' and 'Bliss' in the summer of 1989.  The songs are credited to Prince and Levi Seacer, Jr. with Kahoru Kohiruimaki adding Japanese lyrics.

She essentially overdubbed her vocals on top of the finished tracks and voila, her record was complete.  The disc hit the shelves on November 11, 1989.  Most sources I've researched list the disc as a joint release between Paisley Park and TDK.  However, one source lists Paisley Park as the label with TDK handling distribution.  TDK Records logo appears on the cover, the back and on the disc.  Another label, probably a vanity label called Pisces also appears on the disc and the back.  Paisley Park appears on the back and the disc.  Because the label is accurately displayed, I believe the connection is more than just a cosmetic addition to the artwork.  There is an Obi strip included with new copies of the release.  I don't know if the album is still in print.

Sadly, because most information I can locate concerning this release is in Japanese, I don't know of any alternate releases.  I'm not sure if the album was released on cassette or vinyl.  If anyone has any information concerning this release, please feel free to send it along.

This item was given to me for my birthday one year.  Considering most copies of this disc sell on eBay for around $50 and the asking price on collector's sites often reaches $100, it was one of the most generous and exciting gifts I've ever received.

  1. How is it?!?! Does it sound like some of the other Prince collaborations? Ingrid Chavez? Taja Sevelle?

    1. You can listen to the tracks on youtube. They've been posted there. They're fairly common among collectors. There are also Prince studio versions out there if you want to hear the songs entirely in English. They are typical for 1989 during the time he collaborated heavily with Levi Seacer, Jr.
