PRINCE AND THE REVOLUTION - PARADE (CD/JAPAN) 0 7599-25395-2

It appears that even at the time of pressing for the "Parade" album, CDs were being manufactured out of country by Warner Bros.  The American releases of "Parade" featured CDs pressed in Japan, Germany and the United States.

Once again, black and white are the main colors appearing on the insert booklet and the cover.  The only color appearing occurs on the CD where the song titles are listed in red.

The tracking is the same as the LP and Cassette versions.  The German and Japanese pressings are housed in regular CD cases with inserts and packaging printed in the US.  But only the German and Japanese versions were encased in longboxes.  The US pressings were used for music club releases.  This is the Japanese manufactured disc.

PRINCE AND THE REVOLUTION - PARADE (CASSETTE) 0 7599-25395-4

The cassette release of "Parade" was the typical kind for Paisley Park during this time period.  The clear cassette with the black insert with white lettering.  The case was clear and the Paisley Park logo appears on the both sides of the cassette and on the cover insert.

Unlike the CD and LP versions of the album, the cassette shows the photo of Prince right side up.  Whereas, on the CD and LP, it's often to the side.

There are multiple versions of the cassette and I hope to discuss them all eventually.

PRINCE AND THE REVOLUTION - AROUND THE WORLD IN A DAY (CD) 9-25286 JAPANESE #2

This is the last of the gatefold CDs for "Around The World In A Day".  This is the alternate disc pressed in Japan.  This disc would become the style used on most subsequent pressings of the album on CD with the exception of the green lettering.  It's also the first CD version to feature the Paisley Park logo directly on the disc.  Both the Target versions don't have the logo.

Again, as previously mentioned, the difference between these three versions is the disc.  The gatefold long boxes and the cardboard sleeves were all printed in the US and they are the same for each version.

Of the three, this is the hardest to find.  It is also the most expensive of the group.  The sku is 0 75992-25286 7.

PRINCE AND THE REVOLUTION - AROUND THE WORLD IN A DAY (CD) 9-25286 GERMAN

So tonight I wanna discuss the second gatefold CD version of the record.

Like the Japanese pressing, the disc has the Target shape on the disc itself.  The distinguishing feature is along the bottom where it says, "Made in West Germany".  At the time, Germany was still divided between east and west.

The longbox is the same as the two Japanese pressings.  The long three sided gatefold box and the cardboard sleeve for all three versions of the disc were printed in the US and there are no variations between them.

You can see these versions popping up on eBay now and again.  Sometimes, they ask astronomical prices for them.  Occasionally, you can find them at a reasonable price.  Be sure to get a good look at the disc before you purchase so you can see which version you're buying.  And it should be noted, these long boxes have a flap over the top.  It's very rare to find a version with the flap still intact.  The flap contains the bar code sku information.  The sku number is 0 75992-52862 7.  Happy hunting!

PRINCE AND THE REVOLUTION - AROUND THE WORLD IN A DAY (CD) 9-25286 JAPANESE #1

Although I have more cassette versions of "Around The World In A Day" I don't have scans for them yet.  So I'm going to move on to CDs for now.

This album has an interesting history.  I'm not sure exactly why, but the original copies of this CD were pressed in Japan and Germany.  Both the German and Japanese CD share the same design.  They're actually called Target discs because they look like target scopes.  The way to distinguish the difference is by looking at the labeling on the outside rim of the disc.  It mentions where the discs are printed.

Only the discs were pressed in Japan and Germany.  The discs themselves were housed in cardboard picture covers, in a unique longbox.  The longboxes themselves and the cardboard sleeves were printed in the US.  There are no variations of these covers.  Only the discs.  Of the discs, there are three of these gatefold versions.

This is the Japanese target CD.  The sku number is 0 75992-52862 7.
